October = Blanch's Horror Month

7th Grade- "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" and "Never Bet the Devil Your Head"
8th Grade- "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "William Wilson"

We will continue to study Poe's mastery of mood and tone throughout the month.

7th Grade Religion

7th graders worked in small groups
to depict parablesas Jesus told them
and how they remain relevant today.

The Wedding Feast
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

The Lost Sheep

The Workers in the Vineyard

8th Grade

For most of the week, the 8th grade was busy taking CTP5's,

but we managed to sneak in some work on our research papers.

This year the 8th grade is boldly tackling climate change.

The research is intense, but important.

I cannot praise them enough for their
self-motivation, courage, perseverance, and enthusiasm
with this challenging topic.

Anyone want to help us figure out atmospheric chemistry or geophysical turbulence?

Cafe Friday

On Fridays before school starts, the 7th and 8th graders gather for Cafe Friday.

Everyone brings his/her favorite beverage,

and we gather with some good tunes and good friends.

Thanks to the Murrell family for the Krispy Kreams last week.

Enjoying the Fall Weather

7th and 8th graders have been loving the new basketball hoop during recess.

Four square remains popular during morning recess,

as does 207 love!

10/12- Room 207

Grade 7

7th graders are currently drafting descriptive pieces.

After brainstorming, outlining, drafting, editing, drafting, editing, drafting, and editing some more,
we hope to be able to share some of the final drafts right here,
so stay tuned as we perfect our craft.

We have finished The Outsiders in literature class
and are busy analyzing the plot, conflicts, and themes.

In our religion class, we are working in small groups
to depict some of Jesus's parables as he told them
and how they remain relevant to us now.

Seventh grade is a roller coaster in many ways,
but we are enjoying the ride!

Grade 8

8th graders read The Odyssey in literature class over these past two weeks.

They have also started researching people affiliated with climate change science.
These people will be the topics of their first semester research papers
and a place to leap from for their capstone project in the spring.
More on that later...

In religion class, 8th graders are working on a whole class project.

They are creating a space that will help us remain cognizant of our call to service.

Our study focused on the Corporeal Works of Mercy and the Beatitudes.

Community Time

The middle school students participated in some team building activities
to strengthen their sense of family and belonging.
It is our hope that they will be able to help create the same feelings
in the little kids in the families they head.

10/4 Mission of the Halloween Mission Party

This Year's Mission

It is October which means Halloween Mission Party time.
Sometimes the mission part seems to get lost in all of the excitement,
so I just wanted to take a moment in the quiet before the storm
to share the mission that we will be supporting this year.

It is nice to know where your money is going after all.

This year we will be sending funds raised from the Halloween Mission Party
to the Holy Child school and medical clinic in the Dominican Republic.
This is and impoverished area where Holy Child sisters and volunteers
are truly doing God's work.

Here is a short video demonstrating the services they provide there.

Back to the classroom happenings next week!
